POWER AND GOOD LOOKS
Evo stands for “evolution”. While our Flax line is synonymous with pure sound, natural midranges and deep bass, Flax Evo only increases and revisits its assets for a high-end sound, with the same look embodied by the unique flax cone.
In addition to the Flax cone, this line incorporates the latest Focal technologies: the TAM Aluminium/Magnesium tweeter and the TMD surround featured on the tweeter, as well as all the speaker drivers for a refined yet powerful acoustic rendering.
Flax Evo includes a 2-way coaxial kit, four 2-way component kits, one 3-way component kit and four subwoofers. These kits can handle high-performance amplification and can be combined with any product from the Focal electronics range.
Equipped with Focal’s iconic flax fiber membrane, the PS 165 FSE audio kit delivers natural and dynamic sound in the car. The exclusive technologies it integrates are the source of pure and precise sound, a wide diffusion angle and great definition. New sensations accompany you on the move.
THE POWER OF FLAX
The Flax membrane of the loudspeakers is a natural flax fiber membrane by Focal. In addition to its unique aesthetics, it contributes to the reproduction of a very natural sound, with rich midrange reproduction and clean bass attack.
EASY INSTALLATION
TAM tweeters are mounted at an angle for easy installation in the vehicle. A compact audiophile crossover completes the kit, offering several levels of tweeter and midrange adjustment.
SIGNATURE FOCAL
From the loudspeaker components (TMD suspension, non-magnetic frame…) to the meticulous finish (aluminum bowl, engraved serial number…), the PS 165 FE kit combines performance and style.
Equipped with the Flax cone, the woofers from the PS 165 FE kit deliver a powerful (140-watt) natural sound without colouration. In addition, the TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) surround they incorporate stabilises the surround to achieve better control, and even greater neutrality and linearity.
The ‘M’-profile inverted dome TAM tweeters included in the kit offer a wider diffusion angle and greater sound definition, without directionality. Thanks to their tilted mounting, they are easy to install in the vehicle. A compact, pre-cabled audiophile crossover completes this kit. Finally, with its engraved aluminium basket and meticulous finishes, PS 165 FE combines style, discretion and modernity for a premium system.

THE FLAX CONE, EXPRESSIVE AND NATURAL
This flax cone has been exclusively made in France by Focal since 2013. With its original design, it is 100% geared towards acoustic performance. This sandwich cone is formed of a flax fibre core placed between two thin sheets of glass fibre. Flax is a fibre with the unique ability to reproduce a very natural sound without colouration, with a rich reproduction in the midrange and clear bass strokes. Its lightness offers great dynamics, while its rigidity sustains the bass and provides good damping to deliver a faithful listening experience. Flax fibre is twice as light as glass fibre as it is hollow. Its very low elasticity makes it ideal for increasing the flexural rigidity module of a sandwich structure.
THE TMD SURROUND
A patented Focal technology, the TMD surround makes an appearance on all speaker drivers in the Flax Evo line, playing a key role in the reproduction and purity of the midranges as well as in the elimination of acoustic distortion, particularly when listening at high volumes.
THE TAM TWEETER
Made in France in the Focal workshops, the TAM tweeter stands out for its many qualities, particularly in terms of wide-angle diffusion, beneficial for in-car environments characterised by “off-axis” listening. Comprising a cone that is an aluminium/magnesium ‘M’-profile inverted dome, this tweeter unites an impressive array of cutting-edge Focal technologies to reproduce a faultless harmonic balance and highly-detailed treble.
